SURPRISE!!!

I often read post dealing with concealed carry power. They contain useful information if repetive. However, they miss the point, the element of surprise. You can be shot dead with a 44 mag in your pocket by a nut with a 22 that you did not see comming. (The Regan SS team knows this.) So, I do not think size is as important being alart and competent to draw and fire. Concealed carry works best when you can suprise the bad guy and you don't need a big gun to do that. Stick a 32 in his face and fire 3 shots. He may not drop, but I bet he will duck and run for cover. OK, so now 15 replys will tell me I am wrong. So, take a number and get in line.

    Bamavol, I will not be part of the 15 as I agree with you about the element of surprise. However, I think the two most critical factors are having the gun with you when you need it and to be able to hit the target.

    There is a thread in AR15.com on a person who shot a bad guy trying to rob him and some friends. He was shot several times but was able to shoot the bad guy too. It has been a long hard road for him healing up but he lived to tell his story.

    Agreed; better to be fully aware of your surroundings and carrying a .22 than to be oblivious with a .44.
    Still, I'd rather have both: the awareness and smarts to keep me out of trouble most of the time AND the big bore ability to decisively end a confrontation should the need arise.
    An analogy to deer hunting may not be totally inappropriate. Deer can, and have been killed with the .22 rimfire AND the ability to get close to your target and deliver the bullet accurately trumps bullet weight, energy, etc. So which is the better deer round? A .22 l.r. or a .308 Winchester??[:D][:D]
