S. H. WARD LONG RIFLE

Hello! I would appreciate any information on the following long rifle I inherited from my wife's side of the family. Known history: Passed down from W. VA. Specifics: S. H. Ward, Jamestown N.C., other (if any) markings are indistinct. Octagonal Barrel length is 41", stock length is 34", total length is 57". This is a percussion cap rifle with single trigger. Interior rifle barrel is also octagonal. There is a brass storage area w/lid in the right side of the stock (Maybe for caps?).

    If none of our folks can help you, you might post to a forum that specializes in antique firearms. This is one that I'm familiar with,

    I took a look at GOOGLE, and find that there has been Three Search's for info on S.H.Ward and His History..as a Rifle Maker...None of My Books on Kentucky's or Cap Lock 1/2 Stock Rifles show anything on S.H. Ward.......Sorry I can't be of more service....Best...

    Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid any pictures I might take would not help. The firing mechanism is out of the rifle (yes, I have the pieces but cannot re-assemble at this time - not a "expert gunsmith") and realistically, there are no characteristics, other than already described, that would distinguish it from any other Kentucky Long Rifle. Thanks again.

    You'd be surprise what information you can generate out of a picture. IMHO, post pictures anyways and the let the pros collective efforts put the puzzle pieces together for you.

    This is better than what I can come up with now. Gun is presently taken down completely for cleaning and slow re-assembly with soon-to-be procured parts.
