rem 550 vs. 550-1, 551, 552

So what are the differences between a Rem 550, a 550-1, and hte later rifles (551, 552 and various dash increments thereof)? I've always wanted one (first gun I shot) and I'd like to know the differences, aside from cosmetics

  The 550 has 2 extractors and no spent shell deflector, 550-1 has 1 extractor and spent shell deflector, 24" barrel, walnut stock. First introduced in late 1941 or early 1942 the 550 series was then replaced by the 552. The 552 is a completely new design with an alloy receiver, drop out trigger group and sold with plain and walnut stocks. Sold for a while in ADL and BDL trim and as rifles and carbine versions. Now all come with the same barrel length as the carbine used to be. Both models shoot shorts, longs or long rifle cartridges. I have several of each and like them all.
