I've recently aquired a Nylon 66 in 22lr. It hadnt been fired in many years and was seized up. I've torn it down and cleaned it up, but cant seem to get the small 'cartridge feed insert' in properly. I've written to Remington for a manual and only got a exploided view.
If I put the insert in thru the top it blocks the bolt from traveling forward, in thru the bottom interfers with the 'cartridge stop' and wont allow the triggerguard to line up with the pin holes.
I'd rather do it myself instead of taking it to a gunsmith, anyone know what to do?0 -

They didn't have serial numbers prior to 1968. 0 -

You're welcome. Mine wasn't serialed either as it was made in 1967.

They started to serialize these sometime in 1967. They began by putting the number on the bottom side of the barrel forward of the forearm. Then sometime in 1968 they moved the serial number to the familiar spot on the receiver cover. Kim 0 -
February of '60 to be exact. Some of my info tells me its possible you might have a Seneca Green Nylon 66. Is it kind of a drab brown/olive/grey color more than dark brown? If so its more rare than the Mohawk Brown 66.
Heres a pic that shows the difference. On the right is an Apache 77, sometimes referred to as the "K-mart" gun as it was a contract gun for K-mart. It is mag-fed and is kind of a bright green with brown, black, grey, even red swirls. It will say "Apache 77" on the grip cap.
The middle shows two halves, left and right, of a Seneca Green Nylon 66. It is tube fed in the butt and the grip cap will say "Nylon 66".
The right shows the Mohawk Brown Nylon 66. It is tube fed in the butt and the grip cap will say "Nylon 66".
Natural sunlight is your best bet to see if you do indeed have a Seneca.

I have a Nylon 66 (some 35 years) and using any brand of ammo it has NEVER, NEVER jammed?!! That means never. I just clean the barrel and use a tooth brush to clean after shooting. Only took it completely apart down to each spring and screw once, some 25 years ago. I don't know if this is normal for this gun, but there are times that I do not believe that I have shoot thousands and thousands of rounds with 0 jams. Anyone out there have this kind of experience? I am not anywhere near a real knowledgeable support person at all. 0 -
I have a Nylon 66. What is the code?
On the barrel just forward of the rear/back sight mine says, "22 LR ONLY JOS" then at the bottom "34".
On the left side of receiver cover it has 2143514. Mine has never ever jammed either with LR ammo and I bought it brand new I would guess I was 14, so it would have been 1968 or 69. As I remember it I tried a couple shorts, longs, or the bird shot rounds, but it only liked LR. I think I have taken it apart once and that had to have been 35 years ago. Have only shot it a few times since I use to go rabit hunting with it as a kid with Sammy, my beagle/sheperd mix everynight after school until I was 17 and bought my Remingtom 870. Sammy and I did not go as much but hit more rabits so Sammy was happier with the 870! [:I]0 -
Thanks guys, the pics will help Matwor. I puled it out of the cabinet and I think it is the Mohawk Brown but I'm not 100% sure. I'm off work tomorrow so I'll make an effort to take it outside and also post pics in a new thread. 0
