Walther P22
What are everyones thoughts on the walther P22, Im looking for a .22 that everyone from my parents, girlfriend and myself can enjoy. I really love the look of the walther, any PRO's and CON's I should know about?

Thinking about buying a walther P22 as a target/play gun. Anyone got any opinions about it?

Haven't had a bit of trouble with mine. It eats eerything put through it. 0 -
The slide is made of soft metal, the notch for the slide release can wear to the point, that it will stop locking back after the last shot. Other then that they are pretty cool little guns. 0 -
My Dad has one, I like it okay except for the mag release. It will shoot all the ammo we have tried without problems. 0 -
Mine has given me no problems. I have shot it with the 5" barrel, the 3.5" barrel and the 3.5" with a suppressor. Cycled everything from subsonic to high velocity. 0 -
my son had one, after 2 trips back to s&w for new slides he sold it. 0 -
WVhunt...I have had mine for about two years and have had no problems. It digests everything I put through it and is fun to shoot. I have it set up with a laser and that makes it even more fun to plunk. About the only con is the way the mag release is positioned but perhaps that is just me. I don't think you can go wrong for a little plunker. A target .22 it is not, but for what it is it can't be beat in my book. Would get another one in a heartbeat! Good shooting! And go Mountaineers! If you're looking for a "fun" plinker, this will work OK. Its a relatively good gun for kids or gun novices since it gives the impression that they are shooting a more serious "combat" type gun, even though they aren't.
The gun isn't really ideal for target shooting, hunting, or any "serious" application. They're both smaller and lighter than the real Walther P99, plus have different operating mechanisms, so training value there is limited.
Personally, I've always considered these to be "toy" guns for adults, and I've never cared for them. (There may be some reason for this. . .supposedly the guns were designed by Umarex, the airgun company that is now a subsidiary of Walther).
At the $300 these cost new, I think there are just better .22 guns out there to be had. (Eg any Ruger .22, Smith 22a, etc).
Other potential downsides. . .some of these can be ammo picky, especially before they are well broken in. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of.0 -
don't over think this p22, it is an inexpensive,small,handy,cheap to shoot,easy to clean,and fairly reliable auto. all firearms imho can and do have some kind of short coming the overall quality of these p22's is more than acceptable buy one and have fun. my p22 is reliable, shoots cci mini mags 100%. but it does not like target loads or some of the real cheap ammo, but who cares. what it does not like I do not buy, merry Christmas, Bob 0 -
I guess I am one of the unlucky ones. After about 20 rounds my P-22 wouldn't fire. I took it to a gunsmith and he said that the piece had an inertia firing pin. That is the hammer is no longer in contact with the pin when the pin hits the rim. He squirted some solvent in it and ran off 3-4 rounds. I found it hard to believe that 20 rounds would make it inoperable. I took it home fired maybe 10 rounds & it quit again. Anyone had anything like this happen? 0
