AR-18
i have recently aquired an AR-18 with a fiftly round magazine. the rifle is in mint condition and it has a scope on the top that has a spring loaded shaft that allows it to slide on the rail on the upper reciever i am just curious what this weapon is worth, i read that only 20,000 AR-18's and AR-180's made so im curious what i got my hands on

AR-18 or AR-180? The difference in value between the two is only about $10,000 so it might help to specify. If it is a 180 who made it? Armalite, Howa or Sterling?

An AR-18 is a select-fire rifle. Is that really what you have?
The semi-automatic AR-180 was made by three makers, with the Costa Mesa-made ones being worth the most as a rule. The Howa-made ones then follow, with the Sterling-made ones being the least valuable. Howver, all are preferable to the current plastic AR-180B rifles being sold by the current ArmaLite.
The 50-round magazine you mention is an after-market item, not an original magazine.0 -
It is an AR-18 made by Armalite i dont have the weapon in my home yet but i was just curious. i also have a 20 round magazine that came with it. Yes it is a selct fire weapon. i will have more depails tomarow when i get the weapon 0 -
The 20 round magazine was made by Sterling in England. and it is an AR-180 sorry about saying it was an AR-18. it has MFG. for armalite inc. costa mesa calif. usa by sterling enland stamped on the side. the scope on it sais armalite 2.75 X 20mm the scope is also in mint condition all knobs turn and click and the side cap is present 0 -

Hopefully it was papered during the BATF amnesty in December 1968. If it wasn't, it's value is moot. My understanding is that the only folks who can have possession of selective fire firearms in the U.S.A., otherwise are LEO's and firearms dealers who can possess them as "Dealer Samples". If your not in the States these laws wouldn't affect you.
The Sterling as previously noted is the low man on the totem pole as far as value goes for 180's. Still with the original scope it would be nice outfit. Now would be a poor time to try to sell it though, with so many folks hurting and out of work. It would definitely be a buyers market for a Sterling as the Costa Mesa's & Howa's are so much more highly though of by buyers looking for a 180.0 -
It went from a machine gun made by Armalite to a semi auto made by Sterling in the time it took me to take care of a phone call and you also lost $10,000+ in value during that same time. So much for the AR-18, Now you are looking at around $1000 for the rifle in excellent shape and $300 or so for the scope. If it is really nice you might get more, but if it is in average shape it will bring less. Sterling AR-180s are the most common and the least sought after of the three manufacturers.

yea the pistol grip says ar-18 but the upper reciever is stamped AR-180. thank you for the speedy reply. what would be the best way to go about selling it for the best price i have never sold a weapon and dont have much time being in the army to run arround to gun shows 0 -
List it right here on Gun Broker. You can register for free and then set up an account to sell the rifle. The fees are reasonable and you need do nothing but a little light typing. If you have a digital camera then good photos will help quite a bit. 0 -

So do I. It seems like someone in the Army would be familiar with the selector on a select-fire rifle, such as the M4. What made you think you have a select-fire rifle?0 -
i misunderstood when you asked about the select fire rifle it has the selector switch for safe to semi, i guess i just never herd it called that, i do not know much about guns except an m-4 or m-16. But i promise you i can and have killed with one almost 800 yards away. 0 -
I agree about a Sterling being the least sought after AR-180,s. I don't agree about the Armalite scope price, as I have turned down $450 for the one I have on my Howa. 0
