J.P. Sauer & Sohn drilling

I have a Sauer drilling 12x12 over 30.06. I would like to know when it was manufactured. It is what the Blue Book describes as a model 3000 but is not marked as such. Any info would be appreciated.

    It should have German Proof Marks. One of which is either a two digit number or two letters, which are a coded date.

    The gun has a W. German definitive nitro proof, under which are the numbers 65. My guess is that the year of manufature is 1965. Thanks for the help.

    sidehammer, the 65 could indicate 65mm chamber length. Standard length 12 gauge chambers are 70 mm as I remember. You should have a knowledgable person/gunsmith check the chamber length for you. Remember too that an unfired 2-3/4 12 ga. shell may go into a 65mm chamber but would be dangerous to fire. The reason for that is that the 2-3/4 inch shell will partially block the barrel forcing cone if fired, and could possibly raise pressure levels to a dangerous point.
