Rusty barrel

I have a New England Firearms Pardner model 20ga. I stored it in a hard case and forgot about it for about a year. I pulled it out and all of the metal on the outside of the gun is pretty rusty. The inside appears to have no rust at all. It would be pretty cheap if I wanted to just replace the gun but it has sentimental value since it's the first gun I've ever had and my dad bought it for me when I was ten. Any ideas on how to fix the rust and make it look nice again? Thanks

    I've used turpetine abd 0000 steel wool.

    You'll likely need to re-blue the parts. Not easy for a DIY project. Checkout Guncote from Brownells. You spray it on and then bake it. Choice of colors.

    Buy a carding brush from Brownells (get the big one) and get to carding... Or, if you're wanting to speed it up, get a carding wheel from Brownell's, put it on the appropriate speed motor and get to carding... I have blended some 'blue and rust' on some pretty rough and rusty guns these ways. Good luck!

    I'm sure there is rust inside also ! I see a few of these guns each year . What I do is sand off as much rust as I can , then I put them in my blasting cabinet and rough them up and put a Teflon/Moly finish on the inside and out. It will not rust again , should you have another brain cramp. I have done a bunch of them for waterfowlers and they love it !
