Glock 27 40 ACP for Defense ??????

    Not sure what you mean by 40 ACP? Did someone come out with a new round? On the other hand the 40S&W is the round which Glock chambeers the model 27 in.

    Personally, if I am going to go above the 9MM, it will be a 45 ACP, or a 10MM. Not that the Glock 27 isn't a nice gun, as it will surely fit the bill for defense. The plus is it has more power than the 9MM. The minuses are loss of capacity, increased ammo cost, and some of the problems Glock has had with their 40 S&W guns grenading. It also can be a bit tougher to control for double taps.

    The Glock 27 is perfectly adequate for self-defense. If you're looking for a relatively compact semi-automatic gun in a relatively powerful caliber, this could work.

    Unless you are going to be shooting reloaded ammo through the gun, I wouldn't worry about stories of Glocks blowing up.

    In terms of your question, plusses and minuses compared to WHAT?

    Are you interested in comparison of the Glock 27 to other guns in .40SW caliber, or interested in comparing the .40SW caliber to other calibers? Or to other types of defensive guns in general (eg .38 snubnose?).

    In GENERAL, the Glock 27 is pretty small (though there are smaller) fairly light (though there are lighter), and has good capacity. It can share magazines with its larger Glock "brother", which might be an advantage if you are also carrying a larger Glock (using the smaller gun as a backup).

    Personally, I'm not a fan of the Glock "safe action" design that lacks any external or grip safety, but this is subjective. Some people love it.

    In terms of the caliber, .40SW is more powerful than 9mm luger, yet less powerful than .45ACP. On the other hand it offers higher capacity than .45ACP (yet less than 9mm). Ammo cost is generally a bit higher than 9mm luger, and similar to .45ACP.

    Bottom line, its a perfectly fine gun if you like it.

    Had one for several years and traded it for a G36. I intend to buy another one in the future. Fine little firearm once you get used to tucking the pinky under or buy a few mag extensions.

    The Glock 27 is a potent little powerhouse, if you can not resolve a situation with 9+ rounds of 40 S&W, you are in deep doo-doo.

    The 27 in .40 S&W is a great little gun. I finally sold mine to get a model 23. The 27, IMO, is too big to carry concealed, here in Florida.

    If this is a 1st handgun, I would recommend you get the mid size glock 23 or fullsize glock 22 to start with. With a full or midsize gun the longer sight radius will help your accuracy.

    When the caliber 1st came out I tried it out of a HK USP compact and didn't really care for it. I've been shooting 45's all my life and find they have a gentle rolling recoil verses the snappy recoil of the 40.

    The 40 recoil is not painful it's just really snappy.
