springfield/stevens 410 ga pump

shotgun. i have one that was a present to my mother from my father some 30 odd years ago. only cleaning its ever had is the barrel. its never been pulled apart, had the bolt removed/ gotten a good cleaning. lately shells have been geting stuck in the chamber almost every time. i want to try cleaning it good befor i try finding a new extractor for it. i did a quick search on youtube about it but didnt find much in the way of tearing it down to parts. is that even something i should try at home with this? it doesnt seem quite ar simply as a rem or mossburg. any help would be appreciated.

    FWIW, it may be possible to clean your shotgun without detail stripping it. (To everyone else- yeah, I know, but it is better than nothing. And none of y'all responded yet, so just hush a minute) There are several products made as spray gun cleaners. They can blast out gunk that is hiding under an extractor, down in a trigger group, etc. DO use good safety glasses with this stuff- you can spritz yourself easily. You can also scrub the chamber on a pump by inserting rod down bore with action open, insert brush thru the open ejection port, screw rod on, pull back into chamber and twist, push back out and unscrew, etc. If that does not fix your problem, then start taking out screws and pins.

    i sprayed some rem oil into the chamber put a rag over a punch and scrubbed everywhere i could reach with it. got a lot of gunk out of the reciever area of the shotgun. it seems like it functions a lot smoother now. im gonna take it out tomarrow to where i usually go huntin and put a few rounds through it and see what it does.

    with just spraying these products into the reciever wouldnt they gum up eventually and cause more of a problem?

    These things are a very good solvent and wash the gunk out. Don't even think about using WD 40. It will dry into a sticky residue and gum any action.

    never crossed my mind.... untill now[}:)] wd40 has its uses but id have to be hard pressed to use it as a lube on a firearm.
