Arminius by H. Weihrauch 44Mag

New guy here searching for info on this German made revolver. It has ARM 44 on the frame and FIE Corp Miami/Fla on the right side of barrel and Arminius by H. Weihrauch made in Germany on left side of barrel. Serial # is S 4817. I can't find out much info myself, but it appears to be a well made gun that reminds me of a Colt SAA. Any help will be appreciated especially on age. [;)]

PS. it has a 7 1/2" barrel.

    Age can be ascertained by one of the German Proof Marks. It can take the form of a two digit number or a coded date using letters. Either post quality close-ups photos of all markings, or give us a specific description of them.

    FIE was a U.S. importer/distributor of utility grade firearms. They went out of business in the early 90's.

    Weihrauch revolvers are descent quality, but there has never been a lot of collectors demand/interest in them. They were imported and sold as inexpensive plinkers, for folks who didn't want to buy a Ruger or a Colt. They double action revolvers are still being imported and sold by European American Armory.

    It is one of several revolvers produced by the German firm Weihrauch, best know for their fine quality target rifles. The .44 Magnum is the largest and most powerful in the series (calibers ranged from .22-.38/.357 and then up to the .44). The FIE import marking makes me think the the pistol dates from the early 1980s. These are good pistols, not thing wrong with them, but they don't have any real collector value. For shooting they are great and should give you plenty of enjoyment at the range.

    Ok here's some pics. A couple of the same proof marks are on the cylinder as well, but no numbers other than the serial number that I can tell. BTW... how the heck do you remove the grips???

    The first proof mark you see is the only one on the barrel.
    The first two proofs are on the cylinder.
    Only the frame has all three marks you see here.

    Remove the 2 screws alongside the hammer then remove the screw holding the trigger guard to the rear grip strap.
    Some Colt SAA parts may interchange, if memory serves correctly,like the trigger, trigger& cylinder stop spring, cylinder locking bolt and cylinder pin.

    I also have an Arminius-by h weinrauch made in Germany,,, western style pistol. this is a .44 magnum revolver,,,, Could anyone give me a value on this .. THX! good condition

    well made saa all steel...virtually exact copy of colt with exception of hammer block safety that allows full cylinder carry...see jack lewis, gun digest book of single action revolvers available at alibris, amazon , or other book sites cheap...lots of info on saa revolvers & historical good & bad guys plus info up to 70's publish date...about 50's western TV surge that caused colt to reup saa & ruger to get going big along with foreign imports....i found this book at a house sale several years ago...i have several of this revolver NIB
