AK - need help with ID

I'm trying to figure out the approximate age and type of AK I have here. It has a thumb-hole stock, but it doesn't have the same markings that the others do I see on gunbroker.

Also the stamp says N.Y. N.Y. which would be New York City...kind of odd, I didn't think you could sell them in NYC.

    Its a Norinco Mak-90. Brought in in the early 90's from China.


    Edit I should have looked closer at the pic. A triangle with 66 is a Polytech Mak-90.

    Ah, thank you very much...it didn't say Mak like the others do, so I was a bit confused about the different markings.

    The Sile N.Y. N.Y. marking was the importer of your MAK-90.

    The rifle was produced in 1987. It was probably caught in customs for a few years while the Government decided about what and when to ban. Many of these AK's built during the late eighties were caught in customs, I have never found out why. I am not sure, but I think the ban did not start until 1989. The Chinese AK's are still banned from importation. Very good rifles and IMHO very collectible.

    I tried to send a link, but could not. Go to AK47.net. On the left side of the page, you will see "main menu" click on AK47-info center. Scroll down until you see Norinco MAK90 and open this file. It will give you a lot of info on MAK90's. It is a good read and also there is much more info on this website concerning all AK's.
