Inland M1 Carbine

I have a inland carbine that does not have a date on the barrel. It has Inland mfg.div. general motors then the letter "P" halfway down the barrel. ser.#64475xx any info. please [?]

    This was passed down to me from my great grandfather. I'd like to see if anyone can give me an accurate value on it. I haven't found another with a folding stock similar to this one. I'm not sure if it's original or not. I've taken pictures of all of the stamps I was able to locate in addition to a crack at the back of the stock. There is also a number etched into the trigger guard.

    That is an after market folding stock; an MP-40 type that was very common in the 1970-80s for M1 Carbines and Mini 14 rifles.

    Was great granddad issued a social security card in Georgia between 1936 - 1950? That number on the trigger guard looks like a social security number, and that's how that one decodes. It was common for police to advise people to engrave their SSN on high-value items for theft recovery.

    That and the stock diminish any collector value. You might get a buyer looking for a shooting carbine who lusts after a stock like that, but I'd say you'd be lucky to get $500.

    Are you sure it doesn't already belong to your grandkids, and you're just holding it for them?


    That first pic looks like you just let it out of it's cage, with it's food setting right outside.[:o)]

    You should be able to get a USGI stock with metal for around $100 on the auction side.

    That would be my approach also. Other than the trigger guard etching the rifle looks to be in pretty good shape. I suppose if a folder is a must have the original GI pattern in repro would look OK.

    There is something strange about that M1 it has the new sight and bayo. lug but has the old style safety wich was the biggest problem the GI'S had was that they hit the mag release instead of the safety.The reason for the change from the button to the rotory one.

    I have had a couple of these stocks. They were built by Cadmus Industries in Hollywood California starting in 1966. Back then they were 24.95 postage paid. Search "Cadmus Industries M1 Carbine" online for info.
