Winchester 97 shotgun 2 3/4 Magnum ??

I have A Winchester Model 97 Pump Shotgun in 12 Gauge 2 3/4" Chamber with Fixed Full Choke, 30" Plain Barrel. Can I shoot 2 3/4 Magnum and XX Magnum Turkey hunting loads in it ?? Hi Bert can you tell me what year this was made ser # is 583661.Thank you and MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!

    According to factory records your M97 was manufactured in 1914.

    My "Wreck of the old '97" from 1926 is one of my fav-o-rite guns. It's my skeet shooter. Don't laugh. There is nothing more fun than taking this relic to the range and out shooting $10,000.00 shotguns shot by young and old men in $1,000.00 clothing.

    Still no answer. Does anybody know if I can shoot Magnum loads in this gun? It is in good shape with no pitting.

    Serial number 583661 was serialized and went through the Polishing Room in the first half of the year 1913. There were 34,688 Model 1897s serialized in the year 1913, with serial number 609337 being the last one in late December of that year.

    As for your question concerning shooting modern hi-powered loads in it, I personally would not recommend it. While the Model 1897 is a robust action, it was manufactured well before the era of "magnum" loads. While it may hold up for an unknown amount of time, I suspect that it would eventually shoot itself apart with the loads you asked about.
