Virginia is a pretty easy state to get a CHP. You fill out an application at your local Circuit Court Clerks Office, pay a $50.00 fee, then send you to the local PD to get finger printed, and a month or so later they call you to pick up your permit. As long as you have a clean criminal history you simply need to show proof of some form of firearms safety training and you're good to go. permits are valid for 5 years in VA. And there are like 37 States that are reciprocal with Va. 0 -

If you were in the military, a copy of your DD-214 is acceptable in lieu of taking the firearms safety course. Also, a carry permit exempts you from the "One handgun a month" law.0 -
In my county costs me $15 for 5 yrs. No finger prints And justa background check. Right now good till 2013. They do frown on felony convictions in other states as one of my son's found out the hardway. Although where he is now Montana doesn't bother him...
Usually takes about a week turn around...

Check with your individual municipality for requirements--- amazingly some don't require a safety course. Requirements are left up to the individual municipality. 0
