Hi all, I did a search and couldn't find this answered anywhere...
So a person who is in TX license buys an AR15. He then wants to being it to Mass. to where he lives 1/2 the year. What are his transportation options to get the AR to Mass? Air?

Non licensees can ship long guns through the USPS legally, ( priority mail is the best way to go). Being your a resident of Mass. which has very restrictive gun laws. I would research the legality of owning a AR 15 with high cap mags there, before shipping it. 0 -
Is it even legal to import a newly acquired AR-15 into Mass.? I am thinking that unless the rifle was inside the state before a specific date it cannot be imported now. 0 -
Yes, there *IS* such a thing as a new manufacture MA-compliant AR-15 rifle. It has to comply with the following:
a. No bayonet lug.
b. A mag no greater than 10 rounds.
c. A fixed stock (pinned folding stock is OK), and
d. No flash hider.
In other words, the old Clinton ban rules still apply.
And thank goodness. . .because of this restriction, criminal
"drive by" bayonettings are virtually unknown in the Commonwealth of MA.
You can't "import" high cap mags legally into MA unless you are law enforcement, but pre-ban 30 round magazines are OK if they were in the state prior to the ban (yeah. . .go prove it). They can be found within the state at appropriately inflated prices.

As to bringing ANY rifle into the State, that may have to go through an FFL (not sure). The recipient of said gun needs at least an MA state firearm ID card, if not an LTC to legally own it (and of that I AM sure). . .
Also, specific municipalities may further restrict possession of semi-automatic rifles (eg Boston).0 -

I think Beany is saying that if it is not Mass. compliant, that it has to be in the state or it does not come in...even if it is pre-ban.
I live in NY, and they are almost as restrictive...no bayo lug, no flash hider, no mags over 10 rounds...unless it is preban, and it can come in if it is pre-ban.0 -
There is no such thing as a "preban lower", & there never was.
For folks who are new to AR's & buying their first one, I alway recommend buying a complete rifle NIB from a dealer. Yes, it will cost a little more than a Mixed Parts Mongrel, but you likely to have no problems with it. IF anything goes wrong, you have the factory warranty. And, when you go to sell it, resale value will be much higher.

Bushmaster sells a Mass compliant AR-15. Part number PCWXA3X14M4IZ... I thought I could build one and save some money. I thought that I could purchase a pre-ban lower and add the bells and whistles to it. to make it a (mass compliant) Pre-ban AR-15.
This would be my second AR to the collection....

Because Colt never sold AR-15 receivers as stand alone items, you had to purchase a complete rifle.
You could buy a Match Target or one of the later models as a receiver but no such thing exists for an AR-15, they were all complete rifles when they left the factory.
