Nobody is going to recommend shooting .308 cartridges in a .30-'06 chamber but I saw an M1 rifle fire two rounds and a clip of 8 rounds in the rapid fire stage of a rifle match. The M1 functioned flawlessly. The group fired at 200 yards was slightly low as I recall. The first clue that something had been done wrong was when we were policing up the brass and noticed the cases that were fire formed. This happened when the transition in the army was from the M1 Rifle to the M14 Rifle. Some teams had M1's and some had M14's so both types ammo was available in the white NM boxes. Can't recommend the practice but it certainly caused no problem in the M1. Of course a person may drive on the left side of the road for 1 mile and have no problem. That doesn't mean it is a safe practice.

Just because you "can" doesn't mean you "should".

I think that about sums it up. [:D]
