double barrel shotgun lenght of pull (lop)
hello;
how do you determine correct length of pull, (lop), on a double barrel, two triggers, shotgun? even in just a tee shirt, the shotgun just "feels" to long.
length to the front trigger is 14.5", 13.5" to the rear trigger.
thanks for any input.

Depends a lot on personal stature. You will find that most American shotguns have a LOP of app. 14 inches. They vary somewhat from manufacturer to manufacturer, and are intended to fit the "average" person. As a starting point, many people will hold the gun at its grip and then lay the gun along their arm to the elbow joint. If it fits at the elbow, that distance is used as the first guess whether the LOP is suitable for that shooter. Then only by shooting the gun (at skeet for example) or in the field to determine whether that LOP is suitable.
Naturally, a double trigger gun will only feel "right" with one trigger which should be the front one.
What people normally seek is a gun that comes up easy with the finger on the trigger and the eye aligned down the rib/barrel with little conscious effort.
What I have found over the years is that the Remington stocks fit me to a "T", but my Browning superposed's feel long.
Realize also that LOP is only one of the dimensions to be considered. Drop at comb and drop at heel are also very important. These two dimensions influence the distance your eye is above the rib when the gun is shouldered, and since the eye acts as the rear sight on a shotgun, the DAC and DAH determine how high or low you might be shooting.
Good luck and good shooting,
