Help Identifying Antique Percussion

HAIRY
Need some help identifying this French percussion pistol. I think it is made for the Navy (there seems to be an anchor on the butt) but I would appreciate any help. Clicking on a photo will enlarge it.

    Hello I can't find anything to help you tonight biut will look in the Morning I must say I do like your pistol and normally not a fan of french firearms.

    I believe, "MLE" translates to Model. My WAG is that it's a French Navy Model 1849 belt pistol.

    f you can post pix of the whole pistol both sides I will probably be able to ID it. I have Brooker's book (in French) showing pix of French military pistols from the earliest up to perc revolvers.

    Your pistol is shown on pages 202-203 of R.E. Brooker's "Armes de Poing Militaires Francaises" publ 2006. It is called "PISTOLET DE MARINE modele 1849" - marine meaning Navy. Three drawings and four photos show it in great detail including marks in wood and metal.

    This book is the definitive publication on the subject - by a tireless researcher.

    Chatellerault is a city in France, an arsenal mid-1800s. The ramrod retainer on these pistols can be a small chain device instead of the usual curved links on each side.
