I had a marlin 25m for a long time, which is an older, plain jane bolt action 22 magnum, and that thing was a shooting machine. One of the most accurate rimfires I've ever had. If you're looking for a shooter, a marlin will definitely make you happy

I have a Marlin 782 in 22 mag. Love it. The tube on the 983 makes it a lot easier to shoot without the hassle of reloading the clip(s).

    Buy it.

Depends on what you will use it for. The marlins are solid rifles and have a good reputation for hating cans, and are really accurate at 50 yards. But even my little browning atd will show it who's boss at 100.

If you don't want to go to the expense of a cz, I think you would be much better off with something like the 917. The 17 really is more accurate than the 22 magnum and the detachable magazine is more reliable than the tube feed system.
