Best way to sell collector quality rifles?

I was very surprised to find out two old 22 cal rifles i have are actually worth something after a little research. I have 2 Marlin 22's One a model 39m Article II in pristine condition and another one a model 39m Golden also in pristine condition. I found the first one selling for 2100. in an auction site and the other also listed for 1600. but in this economy of course no bids. I did learn these rifles appear to be rare as far as sales go. Any suggestions welcome. Roger

    GOOD pictures on you listing will make tons of difference.

    The problem with "collector" guns is they are only worth lots of money to a small group of people.

    Some people ask way more than something is worth hoping someone with more money than brains will come along. Check the closed auctions to see what things actually sell for.

    You need to be more precise when describing the condition of a "made for collectors" gun. "Pristine" is too subjective. Buyers want to hear things like, "Never removed from the box", "Includes all original packing material in perfect condition", "Never handled", "Action never worked since it left the factory", etc.

    To answer your question directly, the GB auction site is probably the best place to sell your rifles.

    Right here on Gun Broker is the place to list them for sale. If you are planning to get top dollar for these then they are going to have to be in the condition that Neal described: 100% factory new with the box (plus the slip-cover if one exists for that model), the papers and all of the factory packaging materials. If you don't have the box and paperwork you are just selling "fancy shooters" and not a collectible and the bid amounts you receive will reflect this.

    One thing about auctions on a web site is that you will get higher bids if you have a good track record. If you have no sales history and no record a lot of bidders wont bid. If your thinking of selling these rifles here start selling lower dollar items now. These can be reloading items, optics, knives and should eventually turn to low priced firearms, anything to show that when people pay you they receive the item. Sell your least expensive firearms first and save the best till last. If you describe them accurately and handle the shipping in a timly manner you'll get top dollar here.
