I bet it's a 19, actually a pre-model 19, since it has no model number stamping.
It was called the "Combat Magnum."
Has it adjustable sights?0 -
Rear sight looks to be adjustable. How would I list this on the auction ? S&W Pre Model 19 ..David ? 0 -
Frame size (either 'K', or 'N')?
Charge holes recessed?
Barrel pinned?
Four screw, or five screw?
Sights Pachmyer, or Baughmann?
Red ramp? White outline?
Now, pull out a mod. 36 Chief's Special. Notice the hammer spur is near the top of the hammer? Does your .357 have the hammer spur near the top (very old .357-denotes 'long frame' pre-war) or near the 'middle' as us usually encountered? Thanks, Joe0 -
The serial number makes it a 1955 model It is a early one as S&W started putting model numbers on them then. If the rear sight is adjustable, it is a Pre-19. 0 -

Photo shows a S&W .357 Combat Magnum. And yes, it morphed into the Model 19. If you have a screw in front of the trigger guard, you can amend the listing to say "Four Screw". Best, Joe0
