Blackpowder revolver question
I have an Italian? made 1851 BP cap and ball reproduction revolver that has excessive fore and aft play in the cylinder, and the wedge cannot be installed. I feel the best way to correct this is to remove the two alignment pins in the front of the frame and remove metal from the frame. There's no manufacturer's name on the piece.
My question is how are the alignment pins installed ? Are they pressed in or screwed in ?

No loctite. They were force-fit in and not easy to remove.0 -
If the barrel to cylinder fit is to loose the proper way to fit is remove the metal from barrel. Not from the frame.
The proper gap from barrel to cylinder is .020. If a .030 feeler gauge will go it is to loose.
Go slow and keep checking the fit. A little goes a long way. Also be sure and keep the surface square.
Do not remove the metal from the frame of the gun.

Edit to add: That sounds like a kit gun that was never finished.
You might run into the situation where the cylinder hits barrel before the wedge can be inserted. If so the proper method is to remove some metal off of rear of barrel.
Keep in mind wedge must go in tight as it is always going to loosen
Along with the cylinder to barrel gap must be kept in spec.0 -

That's the way to remove the shake.
Figure on destroying the pins and replacing them.
You may try some heat and use Vise Grips to remove pins.
You will probably have to do some filing on the barrel slot and cylinder pin slot and may have to make a new wedge to fit.0
