Beretta Model 87 Target .22 auto

Does anyone own a Beretta model 87 target .22 auto that can give me some feedback on the gun? This is the model with the 5.9" barrel and squared off muzzle that sells for $650-$750. I would use the gun for plinking and possibly formal target shooting. I like a heavier all metal gun. Thanks.

    If your looking to put that kind of money in a .22 for plinking/target shooting, go with a S & W Model 41. They have been making them for 50 years now. Shouldn't be any problem picking up a used one in excellent condition for that kind of money.

    I've owned and shot the early Beretta series 70 .22 pistols. Their OK, I'm sure the 87 Targets are even better, but that amount of money better is a stretch though?

    Like all Berettas the Model 87 is a nicely made gun with a lot of attention paid to the details of fit and finish. As a target pistol it is actually fairly average and it all together too light weight to give the kind of accuracy you'd expect from a target pistol. The built in barrel weight is about half a heavy as it should be and does not allow for any movement along the barrel to vary the handling characteristics. The trigger is good, but does not offer enough adjustment. I like the pistol but consider a nice High Standard Citation, Trophy or Victor to be much better shooters.

    rjc...+1 for the Smith 41. Super pistol, super accuracy. I have several and they are a blast to shoot! Only wish my old eyes were as good as they used to be...but the 41's keep on truckin! Also could recommend (for a few dollars more) the Browning Medalist. Only .22 that I have found = to the Smith 41. I am sure there are more out there (High Standard comes to mind. I like my Olympic...maybe this Beretta is it?) but for my $ these two are the best. Good shooting!

    I would go with a S&W 41 or older High Standard IF you ever want to get into serious Bulls-Eye shooting . The Beretta is a nice pistol But trigger is not up to par on the other two That and parts are near impossible to get even magazines are a PITA.
