NEF .308
I'm thinking about buying a New England Firearms .308 Survivor from a friend of mine. I am curious as to how far it can accurately shoot. It currently has a BSA Deer Hunter 3-9X32 scope on it. If I upgrade the scope how far would I be able to shoot? What's the general opinion on this particular gun? Good or junk? He wants to sell the gun, scope, and 40 rounds of 7.62mm for $200. Not too sure what I'm getting myself into, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I've had the .308 in an NEF SB2 and it was very accurate. I've taken deer and antelope out to 300 yards with this rig. Mine carried a Burris 3x9 and worked very well. I am not familiar with the Survivor model but I assume the action is the same...I would say get it....Bull 0 -
Plastic but stock leaves a bit to be desired so put some weight in the buttstock if you are recoil sensitive. Not an expensive gun and that often materializes in the trigger but they usually shoot well and there for range should only be limited by skill of the trigger man, energy required on target, bullet selection ,quality of optics, consistency of ammunition. For $200 I would grab it and throw a bushnell elite 10X on it and call it a $375 heavy barreled 308......... Everybody needs a heavy barreled 308 0 -

That's an easy answer:
You're getting a cheap rifle with a cheap scope. You're starting at the bottom and wanting to work your way to a better rifle. Why not put $200.00 towards a better rifle and scope and skip the learning experience and wasted dollars?

This is impossible to answer with any intelligence since accuracy is dependent on a dozen variables or more. You and your scope are the two biggest problems concerning accuracy. A rifle of known precision and accuracy in the hands of an unskilled shooter is significantly less than in the hands of a skilled shooter. A skilled shooter will be handicapped by a rifle poorly made or assemble with low quality components. Both will be handicapped by a cheap scope.
The BSA scopes are not only just cheap but are worthless for quality. Their only saving grace is that they are cheap and will satisfy some once-a-year hunters because of the price. Forget precision and accuracy if using one of these scopes.

Several Match rifles I shoot that are chambered for the .308 Win. are capable of shooting one MOA or better at 1,000 yards. These rifles are more than 15 times the $200.00 being asked for the rifle in question. The scopes cost nearly as much as the rifle.
Decide what you really want to do and then buy the rifle and scope that satisfies that want.

I have an nef sb2 with several barrels (from 22 hornet to 45/70govt) and I've been pleased with the gun so far. Not sure if other barrels can be fitted on the survivor models but I dont see why not. So yeah I would buy it and throw a Nikon or Burris 3x9 scope on it. 0 -
I have one of those rifle. First thing I did was sold the plastic stock and replace it with. A camo laminated stock set from NEF and then I put a Tasco Whitetail Classic on top and I can take shot just over 400 yds with it. I like that it has a heavy barrel and a shorter action then most like bolt actions.
