32 magnum

Hello

My question is concerning the power of a 32 mag as compared to other calibers. Is it the equivalent to a 380, 9mm or bigger such as a 40 auto for penetration.

    I've been looking for a revolver for my wife. She has small hands and is not much on recoil. For some reason the Ruger SP101 in 32 mag seems to jump out at me. It just looks like a gun she could shoot. I have shot the 32 long but not the mag. Any thoughts by you guys???? This would just be a self defense gun...

    Is your question, how effective is the 32 Magnum as a personal protection round? I would say the 380 ACP and the 32 Mag are similar in stopping power. I would consider the 9MM and 40 S&W as better stoppers.

    I was going to post the same question. The wife needs a carry and she's just a little thing. I was thinking the 32 mag in a good hollow point that breaks up good would be just the ticket. For you guys and gals in the know, please help. Thanks.

    For you guys thinking about a 32 H&R Magnum for momma, consider the Ruger SP101 in 327 Federal. It will also chamber the 32 H&R Magnum, and 32 S&W. The 327 is touted as being almost as effective as the 357 with lesser recoil. I believe S&W is also making a 327 Federal revolver.

    I was curious of the comparision to the 380 I was thinking of getting for personal carry. I want something for concealability yet effective in a situation.

    My wife has a 380 keltec and a 32 magnum Smith and Wesson revolver. She does not like the semi auto in the keltec .380 but really enjoys the air light 32 magnum revolver. We will practice with 32 wad cutters and there is very little recoil. The gun is only 12 ounces and is a six shooter. Very enjoyable.

    If you are looking for an auto-pistol, then 9mm is your caliber, and most likey Kahr is the smallest, most reliable, and accurate carry gun around. If anyone thinks a Kel-Tec is comparable, they are just fooling themselves.

    the problem with 32HR is the price and difficulty finding it at the local shop. I have a 6 shooter with 2 cylinders, 32mag and 32-20 and was lucky to find a bunch of 32mag at a decent price.
    for self defense, I carry either .380 or 9mm most often. I think .380 is the minimum caliber for SD. jmho

    Just proving that there really is a bias against lower-priced (and just as reliable, quality-built, etc.) firearms even in the Experts forum.
    I guess I've been fooling myself,my BIL, my Uncle and my brother by us toting and relying upon ancient, inadequate and unreliable KelTec P11s for longer than Kahr has been in business. Between the 4 of us and our crappy guns, we have 5 arrests of burglars, 2 arrests of violent offenders, and 1 carjacker that won't be driving anything again.
    Your mileage may vary, but a 9mm in the hand beats everything else left on the nightstand.
    BTW- my nightstand gun is a (gasp!)Witness. Not in 9mm, either.

    In the world of ballistics, nothing is ever that straight forward.

    I've had several customers who survived hits with a .357; the bullets just punched through soft tissue. Painful, yes, but these guys were not immediately capacitated. On the other hand, a slow-moving .38 WC will usually stay IN the target, thereby delivering all of it's energy to the target.

    You have to balance the characteristics of your load, the target, the distance, & whether or not you are consistently able to make Central Nervous Systems hits
    & do all of this BEFORE you are involved in a Close Encounter.
