How much should I expect to pay?
I'm wanting to buy a AK-47. I just want one that shoots and isn't too beat to hell. How price ranger should I be expecting to pay?

Carefully check out lots of pawn shops, gun shows, and auctions. I have bought several (with double stack mags) for as little as $275 (Egyptian). Last month I bought an Arsenal (with sheet metal action made in Bulgaria) for $300. A SAR 1 was also under $300. There are good deals out there but you have to visit a lot of stores. Most used AK's are sold between $300-$500 as another member has already replied. Prices on these is dropping almost weekly as demand has decreased somewhat and supplies are increasing. 0 -
There are new Bulgarian and Romanians going for less than $400 at a LOT of places.

I just bought one for a customer, Romanian, brand new in the box, with the bayonet and 2 30 round mags, for $425.00, AND 30 bucks shipping. Two hours ago, right here on the auction side. Go, and look.

The Obama gun "panic" is officially over now. Most dealers have plenty of semi-automatic rifles back in stock now.
$400-450 is about the current market price for a low-end (stamped, Romanian) new one with ordinary fixed stock and normal accessories (canvas sling, extra mag, maybe a bayonet or cleaning kit). You can tack on maybe another $50 for one with a folding stock or other bells and whistles.
You can find them for as little as $380 on line, but if you add in shipping and transfer costs, your total cost probably isn't going to run under $400-425.

I think any price of under $400 out the door for any new or like new AK right now is a good price. Also, given that prices on AKs appear to be about where they were before the election, I wouldn't expect new retail prices to drop much more, if at all at this point.
On the other hand, given the depth of the recession and the number of guns that have flooded the market in the last 12 months, good deals on used (or more accurately "pre-owned") guns are probably going to increase as people decide that rent money is more important than a "SHTF" gun they've never shot and are likely never going to.
On used ones, I'd say $300 is probably a bare minimum for one that shoots and isn't entirely trashed.
You might find a new single-stack AK for that price, though these are less desirable unless high cap mags are banned in your jurisdiction. (And at that point, you might as well just get an SKS instead).
If you are willing to go to the "sporting" Saiga with its more conventional stock and appearance, you can figure about $350 for a new one, again maybe $300 for a used one.
On the other end, its not impossible to pay over $700 if you want to go for a nice or tricked out AK with milled receiver, folding stocks, fancy furniture, etc.0 -
