They are now a collectors item, as not that many were made.

Really? I have one that looks like new. Even though my dad used it, he took really good care of it. I was hoping to put it back to work when I get hired as an LEO.

My dad bought a Marlin 45 some time ago. He even used it as his service weapon when many other LEO's were using shotguns. I know the M4 as pretty much become the standard now. But I was wondering if this highly reliable and accurate carbine still has a place in Law Enforcement.

There are some agencies using 9mm carbines, so I don't see why a .45ACP carbine couldn't work in the exact same role.

The question isn't whether or not this is a potentially useful weapon for law enforcement (of course it is), the question is whether or not your particular agency will let you use it.

That is very true. The issue I am facing is I have a few weapons I have no real world use for. Even though they belonged to my dad, I cannot see any other reason to keep them. So I was hoping to find out if this one may have at least a chance of going back to work before I did something I may regret later.

In my humble opinion, that is the best "real world" reason to keep them. I have a few firearms passed down by my father that I would otherwise never own or have interest in. They are considered priceless to me, not for what they are but rather who they came from. I hope you can find a reason to keep these in your possession! And if you decide to unload them, I hope you never have to look back and second guess your decision.
    Good luck!

That is the only reason I still have them. More than once I typed up an ad just to delete it.
