choice of reloading materials
can someone who has reloading experience please tell me what they recommend for type of shells, powder, bullets and primers for reloading 30.06 and 220 Swift. I have a 30.06 Browning A-Bolt and a Ruger model 7 220 Swift. I will be using the 30.06 for elk and deer in the mountains and varmit shooting with the 220 Swift

Purchase a loading manual from your favorate bullet maker. In the front is a very through "how to" section that you should read/study several times before going to the back "data" section (I prefer Sierra and Nosler, BTW).
In the data section, you will see the bullets they make in that caliber (caliber = diameter) and what loading data they suggest for a given bullet in the various chamberings (30-06 and 220Swift are chamberings). Select the bullet weight/style you feel is best for the application you intend to use it on (you might decide on 2 different bullets for both, so you can use the Swift on P-dogs and deer and the -06 on deer and elk).
They will list the type of brass, and primers they used to develop that data, and the 2 makers I mentioned above also give the specific load that gave them the best accuracy (your results can vary, but that gives you a good starting place).
Also, both of the makers I mentioned above are very willing to answer your questions and offer recogmenations over the phone.0 -
Bob has given you good adive, a further note, buy good bullets for your big game hunting loads. A little more money spent on quality bullets is money well spent. Varmit bullets are not as important, as far as performance goes, point of aim is the object, not terminal preformance.

One other point would be to know your rifles. The twist rate can make the difference in the optimum bullet weight for the cartridges you reload.
For example, after trial and error, I found my 30OWM 180gr bullets the most accurately vs say 150 or 200gr bullets. So I try to find bullets in that weight constructed for the purpose intended: Target, light skinned games, heavy game, etc....0
