Question about returning a gun for repair.

I'm going to be returning a Taurus 62 for repair. They guy in customier service said that I can send the whole gun back (it breaks down into two pieces) through UPS with no problem. They also said that they can return it directly to me without going through an FFL. Does anybody know if this is true?

    Sending a firearm for repairs/modifications can be done by the owner and returned directly to the owner without going through a local FFL holder as far as the Feds are concerned (State laws may differ in places like Calf and Mass)

    Of course, you will have to send it Next Day Air, & from a customer service counter (not a UPS store or packing store). Expect to pay $50-60.

    If you bought it from a dealer, you might was to ask him to ship it for you.

    EDIT: My mistake, I thought it was a handgun. Long guns can be sent UPS, USPS, or Fedex. UPS & Fedex still require shipment of all firearms from a customer service counter.

    Yes you can send UPS...next day air and adult signature required...it expensive.

    Send it next day air saver. It will be a little cheaper.

    If this is a warranty issue then I'd hit Taurus up for shipping both ways. Contact them and see if they Will send you a prepaid, pre addressed shipping container so that you can just slide the pistol inside and then drop it off. Otherwise this kind of thing costs a ton of cash: $100 out of your pocket for the round trip would not be out of the ordinary. If this is not a warranty issue and strictly repairs then shipping is going to be on your dime.

    Guys, a quick question.
    Since the Taurus 62 is a long gun, couldn't it be shipped by UPS ground or USPS?

    Individuals who do not hold a dealer ffl can ship long guns through the U S Postal Service. There are some postal clerks who have the opinion that only dealers can mail long guns. If you encounter one of these you will have to ask to talk to someone up the chain of command who knows the rules. UPS ground or FedEx ground are also options for the non-licensee.

    Just don't change your mailing address...They may only send it back to the address it came from...

    I thought it was a handgun. Turns out it is one of those slide action rifles. Yes, you can ship UPS, US Mail or FedEx, for much less than then amounts discussed, but I'd still hit Taurus up for he shipping costs both ways.
