to scope or not to scope
I asked on the other board about puting a scope on my new mini 14, I know they arent tack drivers, and liked the input i got, but was wondering if you were to put a scope on it would would be your choice. I would mainly be using this rifle for groundhogs, coyote, and just some fun on the range.

I would put a fixed 4 power compact scope on it, a full size scope looks kind of dumb on a Mini-14. I have a Sightron fixed 4 power and I can hit metal plates out to 300 yards with it. Here is a link to the scope I have on my rifle:

Don't waste your money on NcStar or BSA cheapie scopes, you get what you pay for in optics!0 -
Dot sights are great for plinking.
For a magnified scope, I agree, fixed 4x should work well.0 -
wvhunt,
I like a smaller variable power scope for the Mini-14. I use a 1x4 Leupold on my Mini 14s. One power for running game like jackrabbits or coyotes and 4 power for setting targets like ground squirrels. Both my Min-14s are the ranch version, scope mounting is a piece of cake. The scope has it all over the original sights.0 -
I have a leupold 1-4 power scope on mine, balance is real good for that carbine....i would stick with a 1-4 or at the most a 2-7, fixed 4x scopes are good to but quality ones are getting tough to find. 0
