Deactivated WW2 machine gun

A party in Canada has a deactivated WW2 German machine gun for sale. He says he can not ship to the US because of our ATF laws. I was surprised to hear that. Am I getting a straight answer?

    Depends on what it is and what he means by deactivated.

    There's deactivation, then there's deactivation.

    What I mean is, the deactiviation performed on the machinegun you wish to buy may be only a small pct. of what ATF wants done to the machine gun to make it Okay for casual sale in the U.S.

    In other words, it may still be illegal to posess in the U.S. under ATF deactivation guidelines. There are weld cuts, cuts of a certain width, amount of cuts, where the cuts are located, etc. You get the idea.

    Deactivated machine guns are just that: Deactivated, which means that they can be made functional once again. They are still machine guns and still subject to all of the regulations that apply to National Firearms Act weapons. To be importable the receiver would have to be destroyed with the guidelines of the BATFE Technical Branch.
