Chiappa Double Eagle Derringer Pt 3
I bought this locally after looking for one for a while. It's 22LR. I also bought some Remington hollowpoint 22s at the same shop.
I took it out to a friend's house to try it out. When I loaded the .22 shells into it, it wouldn't close. I removed the shell from the lower chamber and it closed with just one in the top. It fired fine with just one in the top chamber, but afterwards, it was very difficult to get the shell out, requiring a screwdriver. I put JUST one in the lower chamber and it closed, but it wouldn't fire with it there. This seems to be a real issue.
There seems to be a tiny bit of space in which the shells should continue to push in, but don't. Just a few sheets of paper's worth of space, but it might be significant in this case.
What seems to be the issue?
I cleaned it out with a wire brush, solvent, and oiled it. Bought a kit today. No help. The shells still don't fit entirely inside it, just a tiny bit raised outwards, and so it won't close. I looked for other ammo there, but they were sold out of .22LR.
I can't see how it could possibly be "accidentally chambered" in another round (.22, .22 short, for example), because the manufacturer doesn't MAKE anything in this gun but .22LR.
And, YES, it is intended for .22LR.
The rounds stick out a bit from the barrel end itself. Here's a pic.

I still say try different ammo. (after cleaning chamber & bore to remove possible wax build up from Remington ammo). If problem persists, take it back to store and see if they will send it back to MFG. If not, you can legally do it yourself. You do not need an FFL to send/receive a firearm sent back to MFG for repair. Contact the MFG for shipping instructions and follow them TO THE LETTER. 0 -
simple they did not run the chamber reamer in far enough during manufacture ..it has to go back 0 -

Being a retired former gun shop owner for 27 years, I might help if not too late. First off, I refused to use and sell any of the Rem 22lr ammo do to duds and underpower loads. Their CF is great stuff though. Second, I have two of these Dbl Eagles and both required some filing. Your extractor lift plate is too wide at the cartridge slots and it's putting the bullets in a bind when inserting both. That's why it worked fine just inserting one. Remove the extractor lift plate and take a little rat tail file lightly to each cartridge slot till both rounds will seat fully. Since this is non selective fire weapon, you have to cock and fire twice t.o make sure it will fire the one cartridge whichever hole it's in. Try CCI Mini Mags or Super X0
