What's the best .357 rifle?

I'd like to hear opinions on what is the best "working" (as opposed to cosmetically nice) .357 magnum rifle?

And WHY?

For the purpose of this question, cost isn't a factor.

    I've got a Henry 357 Big Boy and a Marlin 1894C in .357 and both function flawlessly, can hit pop cans at 100 yards, and both just feel right.

    The only drawback is with the Henry in that it is loaded from the end of the tube, whereas the Marlin has the loading gate. The best of these two (cosmetics not being a factor) is thereby the Marlin.

    There is a newer Winchester Model 92 on the auction side, right now as we speak...GRAB IT! Yes, they are not like your original Winchesters...they have somethings that detract from that, but they also have some things that add to it. They are very well made in Japan, by Miroku. They are very smoothe, and very accurate. After you buy it and shoot it, I would love to take you up on the Martini's you are going to offer for the suggestion[:0][:0][:D][:D][:D][:0][:0].

    While you are buying that one there is a 44 Magnum over there just like it too.

    However, they do not lend to scoping like the Marlin's do.

    beantownshootah...I have a Savage 24V, 20g/.357 O/O that I really like. Have had it for years and it makes for great shooter and a super trip gun as it breaks down nicely. The downside is that it is a single shot but the upside is that it is scoped and I seldom need two shots at 75yds or so. I have come to find out that this Savage 24V is one of the rarer ones as most were made in rifle caliber. Good shooting and have a great Holiday!

    If working requires more than one shot I'd go with the Marlin 1894. It is reliable, can be scoped and accepts a nice peep and globe sight set up which, if your eyes are OK, is just as accurate as a scope. My 45 Colt is equipped with both.

    If one shot works for you and weight/size count, I'd say a Thompson Center (Contender or Encore) is fine. Very light & compact package, with a 16" bbl you're looking at about 5 lbs (wood stock, plastic is less) and just over 30" OAL.

    agree. i wasn't so sure about a rossi initially, but now i own a .357 and a .45lc. the only issue is the trigger which is kinda gritty for the first 100 or so rounds.
    don't know what the new winchester 1892's are selling for, but the MSRP is $1800 and i don't think it comes in .357 (but, i could be wrong)

    I've had great results with a Winchester 94AE. Extremely accurate for a lever gun with a pistol cartridge. Shot a turkey in the head at 60 yards+ this spring. Functions well, and is a smooth, well balanced, quality gun. Kind of pricey these days but worth it. . .even though they're not "true" Winchesters.

    The "New Winchester 92's", are not so new...they have been around since the late 1990's. They have been made in 32-20, 357, 38-40, 44-40, 44 Magnum, and 45 Colt. The one who's MSRP is $1800.00 is the new Deluxe Takedown in 44-40. There is a 357 and 44 Magnum on the auction side RIGHT NOW, along with several of those New Takedowns, and some John Waynes in 44-40, and a matched pair of the 45 Colt with the Grade 1, and Higrade in MATCHING serial numbers. They are so smooth and accurate that a lot of the CASS has sucked them up.

    There are several original 1892's over there on the auction side too. I have an original that was made in 1895 or so, in 38-40...114 years old...I still shoot it!
