    Because we can't pronounce the name of the manufacturer, those of us in the US refer to it as "CZ".

    They have made many firearms; photos are needed to identify what you have.

    It used to be either a VZ24 Czech 8mm military Mauser or one of several similar models made for export. The Czech army issued it from 1924 til 1940, Brno kept making them for the Germans under occupation, then exported them for a while after the war until the SKS and AK 47 autos took over in the East bloc. The action is of 1898 Mauser design, made as well as a German Mauser of the same period.

    Yours has been cheaply sporterized by cutting down the military stock and adding a rubber recoil pad. Resale value is low but it will still kill game. The action could be made into a nice sporting rifle, now that collector interest is destroyed, but it would take a pro or advanced amateur gunsmith to make it look right.

    It's a military rifle with the adjustable rear sight.

    My daughter starts hunting this next year, so I will probablt take the action and make her her first deer rifle![:D]
