H&R 999 Sportsman Question

Have H&R 9 shot s/n D9028.Has a gold Boy Scout fleur de lis attached to one side of the one piece walnut grip.It looks factory.Has any one ever seen this? Bill Goforth maybe?

    Fangbo - does your Sportsman have the cylinder release as a 1" long lever on the right side of the barrel frame just ahead of the cylinder or a small "button" on the left side. Position of this release will indicate Model Variation and therefore date/year of production.
    As to the Boy Scout emblem - it is possibly a "special order" item - as H&R did some special runs at times, but more likely the emblem is a pin that a former owner attached to the grip.
    I have a few dozen Sportsman revolvers in my collection, covering the entire production span from late 1931 up to 1999 and have seen literally hundreds of others - but have never seen one with grip embellishments. Is the emblem inset into the wood or is it just pinned or glued? During the first Model run up thru 1952, there were no known factory escutcheons or inset medallions on the mono-grip.

    It has the 1" release lever .The emblem appears to be real gold.It is small-about as big around as the had of a 16p nail .Not inset but very neatly/securely attached.Probably glued.Thanks for your help,Fang.

    Thanks for the info: with the right side cylinder release and that serial number (in this case the 'D' stands for double action and not year of manufacture {D = 1943 after 1940 date coding system}) your piece is an early 1st Model Sportsman Double Action, most likely made in 1932 or early 1933. It should have height adjustable front sight and windage adjustable rear sight, squared convex finger grips on the barrel latch and a "smooth" sided barrel.
    Is your cylinder marked with "Patent Pending" or does it have one or two patent #s? This answer will help our research on this model.

    p.s. I'm inclined to believe that the Boy Scout emblem was added by some previous owner but...???? Perhaps, Bill G. has some other info.

    It has patent 1904730 on the cylinder.All the features are exactly as you stated.

    there is a slight possiblity that some local Boy Scout of America Council had this revolver made up but i doubt it. most likely added by a prevous owner who was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. i do applaude him for being a member (i was for forty years).

    i do know that sometimes H&R made up special promotional revolvers for different groups but i have never seen one for the BOY SCOUTS. i do know that they advertized some of thier rifles as suitable for BOY SCOUT Matches, back when that organation was more gun oriented.

    any body else have information on this model.
