Bolt action rifle advice

I'm looking to purchase a bolt action rifle for long range plinking. From my research thus far, I'm considering a Savage Model 10FP or Tikka T3, chambered in 308 Winchester. Savage has a excellent repetation, Tikka is made by Sako which is another great arms maker. I've read great things about each, mainly over it's out of box accuracy. I'm torn between these, what do you think?

    Excellent choices... you're picked the two manufacturers with the best reps for 'out of the box' accuracy. The Tikka action is smoother... but suggest you touch and feel both, work the actions... buy the one you like best. Doubtful yu will realize a significant difference in accuracy, all other things being equal.

    Which Tikka T3 are you contemplating?

    One of the biggest differences between these two is the triggers. The Savage has the AccuTrigger. Many people love it, but not everyone, and I am one of those who is very definitely not enamored with it.

    The Tikka has an excellent trigger. I consider it to be just about the best out of the box trigger available in a moderately priced rifle.

    I presently have two Sakos and one Tikka. I tried a brand new Savage 12 low profile. However, I no longer have the Savage. It went down the road.

    For your information, there is a Tikka T3 Varmint in .308 offered for sale on this website (Item 149297853). It is being offered at $700 with no reserve.

    I am not sure whether the Savage Model 10 FP would be much, if any cheaper.

    You will not go wrong with either choice. For a varmint rifle, I believe a 25-06 would be better than a 308.

    For the money the Savage is better.

    Reviews on either rifle are awesome, I will agree that I need to hold each to make a decision. I was looking at the Tikka T3 Varmint or Tactical series. The Savage Accu-Stock technology drew me closer, however, I'm not sure how much of this is "marketing hype" as I am still a novice of weapons of this type.

    What is it with the Accu-Trigger that is different? Specifically, what are "pros" and "cons"?

    To me, having the AccuTrigger on any rifle that absolutely has to be there for you is an oxymoron. It cannot be counted on to go off. I doubt that you will find AccuTriggers on any military rifles, and I will bet that you will not find them on dangerous game rifles, either.

    I've never owned a savage. They just feel to "cheap" to me. I do own a Tikka T3 in .308 win and its the most accurate rifle I own. I have Browning A-Bolt II's in 30-06 and 7mm with BOSS and .223wssm and 25wssm all with Leoupold scopes and my Tikka with a Nikon Buckmaster will outshoot any of the Brownings. I cant say enough good things about the Tikka. I dont love the detachable mag being plastic but imo its more comvenient the the drop box dm on the A-bolts. And the Tikka action is smooth as silk. I vote for the Tikka

    Am not a Savage fan. Don't like the accu-trigger, action is rough as a cob. Sako is the way to go. Don't be cheap, spend the extra nickel and be done with it. You will not have any regrets !
