Cleaning the Checkering.....?

Do you clean the checkering on old collector guns? If so what method do you use?

  Tooth Brush with Balistol

  Denatured alcohol and a cotton swab/soft bristled bruch.

  True "old collector" guns would be stored oiled and unmolested. Why am I cleaning this?
  
  But to clean checkering on wood, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush.
  
  I've used Murphy's oil soap with good results, but I think any of the above mentioned cleaners could also work pretty well.
