What time of year is best to buy guns?

(No wiseacre "any time of year" answers, please! [;)])

I'd imagine its just after New years when most hunting seasons are over and people are tapped out of extra cash from Christmas, but I'd love to hear some opinions on this from board experts.

    I would think the big box retailers would be having their big sales just before hunting seasons begin like in early September. Another time would maybe be late March or early April when most people get their tax returns back and they have some extra cash on hand.

    I think it depends on where you purchase them.. If you buy from retailers then the previous post is probably right on track. If you buy from small shops or individuals, I think January and February would be a good time since as you stated, most people blew their wad at Xmas.

    I know I like to purchase cars the end of January or February.

    I sell items at auction on a regular basis. I put higher dollar stuff up just prior to the the start of the Christmas buying season and for the income tax return period. The theory being is folks have money in their pockets and are looking to splurge. The times I go looking for extreem deals are late summer and post Christmas. Both times are when folks have spent more then they should and are looking to get some money back. Also there generally is a lack of buyers for the same reason. Therefore less competition means lower prices. As for the retailers, gun and pawn shops; well they seem to be running lots of sales/deals at those times as well for the same reasons. Just my 2cents for what it worth....

    I think the best time is right now. Most people aren't buying guns for Christmas and they already have their hunting guns. They're spending their money on big screen tv's, computers and video games.

    I'll WAG that the pawn shops will be getting more stuff in late Jan. and Feb when people off their Christmas gifts for things they really wanted and/or realize they owe $$ to a credit card.

    Anybody out there with too much time on their hands?
    I've always thought it would be interesting to pick a few popular and representative guns; maybe a pump shotgun, black rifle, auto handgun and revolver, bolt rifle, etc. and track typical prices over a year or two for comparable guns.

    If you live in a state where hunting season ends before Christmas, it can be heavenly. You most assuredly want to make sure you get your buying done before July though...thats when things start to go up heading into the fall hunting season.

    It is always the right time if you get a deal you can't refuse!!!!!!!

    Our gun season ended last Sunday-Ohio. I was at the local flea-market today and had three guys selling shotguns.
    I've found right now is the best time to buy hunting firearms.

    definiately here in south miss. it is in the feb-mar time frame. hunting season is over and christmas bills are due. most firearms for sell seem to be in the oct time frame but prices are high.

    I'd say it depends on who you are buying from, I think right now is a good time to buy from private sellers. Past month and a half I scored some great deals.

    January is probably a good time for buying from dealers, the holiday and hunting season pushes are over, I don't know if they do but it would make sense they slow down some.
