Lyman Cutts compensator, 12 Ga.

Hi all, brand new to this forum, thanks!
my question/concern is in regards to the lyman cutts compensator on a 12 ga. shotgun, specifically the Defensive shotgun I am going to build around a browning auto 5. will the plastic shotcups used in modern shotgun ammo. get tangled up in a Cutts compensator, possibly causing a blockage? thank you for any info. on this topic. I am also new to Browning auto fives and Cutts compensators, have a lot of learning to do. Andy in cold, snowy, frozen Wisconsin.

    Why would you want a Cutts Compensator on a defense shotgun? If I were building a defense shotgun and the barrel had a cutts, I would opt to cutting the barrel to 20 inches or so and scrap the compensator. This would end the worry of shot cups getting fouled within the bore. But in answer to your question, I really don't think they would get tangled within the compensator. Can't wait to hear more opinions on this and welcome to the forum.

    thanks for the good info. I opt for a cutts compensator precisely because it is big, obnoxious, LOUD, and retro -looking. just doing a little research to make fairly sure that this is a safe option.

    never ruin a full length a5 barrel with a cutts even a jap one.

    In the MARINES, I often used a model 11 remington, that is the same as a browning a-5. it had the cutts compensator, and I think a cyl bore tube on it. never had any thing hang up in the slots, except a little VN jungle leaves!! with its short 18" bbl, the cutts made a really sweet shooting gun outa it!! get one put on.

    I have seen this happen (petal type wads stuck in the compensator), the next shot cuts then off nice and clean.

    I like choke devices for two reasons (Maybe three!). When I was a young man, all the old guys that would let me hunt with them had Polychokes or Cutts on their guns. I thought they looked and worked great, especially the Cutts (they got more birds than I did). I wanted one on my Ithaca 37 but I couldn't afford one. Now I've got a whole rack full of guns with Cutts and Polys on them since I can get them for about half price because you guys who collect pristene guns or think they're ugly, turn up your noses at them.

    I still think they look great and they work just as good as they did in the 1950's.

    thanks again guys, I feel better about my upcoming project now! Auto-5, 20" barrel, cutts comp., magazine extension, gold front sight bead, good recoil pad, good going over by a gunsmith. gonna be neat! a.j.

    I put a thread-on Poly-choke on a 20in barreled H&R single, it works well and looks good. I bought the choke from a parts bin at a gun show with the part of the cut off barrel still attached for $5.
