Hi Power 10 round mags ??

I accidentally[8D] bought a pair of mags for my HP. It never occurred to me that they were 10 rounders, since those didn't exist when I had my last HP.

Can they be "fixed" to make them REAL HP mags - 13 or 14 rounds ??

    With some work some of them can be...But not all. The factory MECGAR/Browning magazines had the entire lower portion of the magazine removed and a special bottom attached which would make it impossible to bring them back up to 13 round capacity.

    I bought a couple of 17 round mags from Cabela's a while back and they worked great for me. Don't remember the brand, but as I remember, they were the only 17 round HP mags they listed.

    Are these the ones with the plastic bottoms for about the last 1/3rd of the body? If so, I had some and would say no.

    I have another "stupid" question, is it legal to modify those 10 rounders to hold more rounds? I've never heard of anyone trying to do so, but certainly understand the individual wanting to increase these to 13's. I have always thought that it was very difficult if not impossible to do so, but could be wrong as I've never tried it or heard of anyone attempting it. Good luck!

    it is legal to modify them so long as it does not violate any state or local laws restricting magazine capacities. The vast majority of these 10 round magazines were a result of the 1994 Crime Bill and in order to be imported they had to be pretty much tamper proof. Some early 10 rounders had a simple rivet or some other very basic block placed into the magazine limiting capacity, but later magazines were either purpose made or highly modified to allow only ten rounds and are not easily convertible to higher capacity.

    Here we can see two High Power magazines: The top magazine is from a 1960's T-Series and has a 13 round capacity. The bottom magazine is a factory Browning magazine produced by MECGAR and branded as Browning and holds 10 rounds:

    As you can see, a large portion of the body of the lower magazine in the photo has been removed and replaced with a "spacer" which takes up 3 rounds. This spacer is secured to the magazine with a screw and while it can be disassembled (it is a PITA to reassemble) there is no way to replace the missing metal in the magazine to raise the capacity back up to 13 rounds.

    Sell them to someone in California [:D]. Or strip it for parts.

    You can always offer them us as a give away. Otherwise no one outside of CA or one of the other restricted states is ,likely to be interested in them.
