Chiappa Double Eagle Derringer Pt 2

There was an original post. Someone locked it and told me to start another if their suggestions didn't work. They didn't.. Fantastic.


I bought this locally after looking for one for a while. It's 22LR. I also bought some Remington hollowpoint 22s at the same shop.

I took it out to a friend's house to try it out. When I loaded the .22 shells into it, it wouldn't close. I removed the shell from the lower chamber and it closed with just one in the top. It fired fine with just one in the top chamber, but afterwards, it was very difficult to get the shell out, requiring a screwdriver. I put JUST one in the lower chamber and it closed, but it wouldn't fire with it there. This seems to be a real issue.

There seems to be a tiny bit of space in which the shells should continue to push in, but don't. Just a few sheets of paper's worth of space, but it might be significant in this case.

What seems to be the issue?

I cleaned it out with a wire brush, solvent, and oiled it. Bought a kit today. No help. The shells still don't fit entirely inside it, just a tiny bit raised outwards, and so it won't close. I looked for other ammo there, but they were sold out of .22LR.

    i needs to be sent back to the manufacture sounds like the chamber reamers had lots of wear when gun was made,, the chambers are to tight

    Also failure to fire the bottom barrel is an extremely common problem with these inexpensive O/U Derringers. I saw a website post (I believe here) some time back on how to fix it. Something to do w/the enternal notches in the hammer.

    pull hammer back to 1st click,then load ammo and close that should work as far as loading goes,

    I got your email, longshot, and I appreciate it. Gave that a try, it didn't do the trick. The rounds stick out a bit from the barrel end itself. Here's a pic.

    I just noticed you said you have Remington ammo. I suggest trying another brand. I had similar problems w/Remington ammo in revolvers. Seems (to me) to be that waxy stuff they coat them in.

    ok here is what i found out [i have the same gun] mine to does the same thing as yours but i have only shot shorts in it [in basement] i would think that longs would work ok also but have not tried them as i only use it to mess around with and have not shot it much. so try some shorts and longs to see if it works for you as its only a play around with gun anyway and shouldnt be used for anything else.

    I mean... It's a gun, and it's chambered for 22LR, so I'd like to use it, and with the (cheaper, more effective) ammo it's made for, and use it whenever I want.

    I don't get the warranty process. I don't have an FFL, so how is it legal to ship a gun to them AND get it back to me? They said it might take a long time to fix, which sucks. I just want to use the damn thing.

    This manufacturer doesn't make .22 short derringers, so I can't imagine it was accidentally chambered in the wrong round.
