    If I could have a 4th, a .22 rifle, bolt action.

    If I could have a 5th, a .45 1911

    If I could have a 6th, a 30-06 rifle.

    that would be enough.

    IF 1 gun. Ruger 10/22 with 10rd factory mag along with some quality 25rd mags and my silencer

    If 2 gun. Add quality sidearm. From what I have that would be my Glock 34

    If 3 gun. Add quality centerfire rifle. Most likely a bolt gun in a common .243, .308, or .30-06

    The question is really too vague to answer properly.

    The exact answer depends on where I am, who is with me, why I needed to "bug out", and how I am getting out.

    EG: If its a Katrina-style natural disaster in a rural area my choices will probably be different than if its rioting in a metropolitan area. If I'm alone and on foot my choices are going to be different than if I'm with other adults and have a car. For example, I'm NOT going to be toting multiple longarms (plus ammo) on my person if alone and on foot somewhere.

    I would consider some subset of the following, again DEPENDING ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES:

    -12 gauge pump shotgun. Probably Mossberg 500, but any could work. If I had to have only one, I think this would cover most common uses for a natural or civil disaster induced "bug out".

    -.22LR rifle. Bolt action repeater has advantage of high reliability and ability to feed any ammo, but others could work. Suppressor is a good idea, but in truth, if things were so bad that I really needed one, it would probably be pretty easy to improvise one from common junk. .22 would be good for foraging for food, but it *could* be used defensively or for short-range urban sniping.

    -High-cap centerfire pistol. I'd probably take my CZ-75 9mm just because I like it, but others could work too. Which exact gun is almost irrelevant, frankly.

    Again depending on the nature of the situation, the pistol might come before the rifle and shotgun. In fact, depending on the exact situation, I might pick three pistols and forgo any longarm!

    EG if its an urban area, if there is a heavy police or military presence, it simply may be impossible to go about your business with a longarm. If there were other adults in my group, everyone might benefit from having their own pistol.

    -Centerfire rifle. Which one, again, depends on where I am and what's going on. I think a good generic choice would be an SKS rifle, a bunch of stripper clips, and a spam can of 7.62x39 ammo.

    Another potentially good choice might be my Mosin M44 since its short, tough as bricks, powerful, feeds from stripper clips, and (most important) I could easily grab one of the 440 round ammo spam cans to bug out with.

    In an urban riot-type situation an AR-15 carbine could be a good choice since it combines small package size with high capacity and relatively decent power. Kalashnikov could work too, though its a bit more bulky.

    there may be certain circumstances where you would want 3 pistols and no long arm, but I can't (off the top of my head) think of any besides where concealment is entirely necessary.

    You use your pistol to fight to get to your long arm.

    In a three gun, I'm taking my 30.06, my 10/22, and my glock 30.

    beantownshootah, you made some good points. I would take a .22 cal 10-22, .45 cal handgun and a 30-06 or a .308 rifle. The reason for all three of is that it is easy to get ammo in times of dire need. All of the post were great, keep on repling, it is interesting to see just what different people would carry. Thanks,

    I would take a TC encore with 3 barrels...22 LR, and 308...both 16 1/2 inches, and a 18 1/2 inch 12 ga barrel

    A 1911 45 acp

    and lastly a GLOCK 19

    AR 15 - .223 centerfire capable of defense/bigger critter gitter/long range. Scoped. Lightweight ammo = greater qty to carry. Ammo availability.

    Ruger target gov't pistol .22lr, scoped. Lightweight ammo in quantity, quiet. Ammo availability.

    Browning BDM 9mm, high cap defensive pistol, lighterweight ammo than .40/.45/.41/.44 Ammo availability

    Weight of arms/ammo and availability of ammo is a major consideration.

    Like Bean stated the situation would dictate, I can't imagine a SHTF situation where I wouldn't leave without hi capacity military style weapons, the overall situation would dictate if I also took a hunting rifle or not, 5.56 and 7.62 can be used effectively for hunting if the need arose, I'd probably take one of each. For a side arm I would opt for a hi capacity 9mm over my .45's. Almost for sure I would not be bugging out alone so I am certain my group would not be limited to 3 firearms, so in that regard I will easily have more than three options.
