velocity and barrel length
how much velocity do you lose in a 16" barrel vs. a 21" barrel on a .308 FN FAL.
I've heard 5%, I've heard 50 fps/inch.

A few years ago Jon Sundra took a rifle and chrono it (24" barrel) He proceeded to take one inch off the barrel and chrono again until he got to 17". The average was -50 fps/inch. 0 -
This one is pretty easy because the engineers at FN already did all of the research. Using published data: A NATO STANAG ball round fired from an FN 50-00 with the standard 533mm barrel (21 inch) travels at 840 meters per second, while the identical round fired from an FN 50-63 with it's 436mm barrel 17 inch barrel travels at 810 meters per second. Dropping another inch of barrel length down to 16" would result in an additional loss in MV, but not much. 0 -
I would agree with He Dog. The 50 fps per inch is probably pretty close. 0 -
Dont forget that you'll need to open up the gas port some to have "range" to move on the gas adjustment ... directions, pics, etc. on falfiles about this. 0
