Grip Issue with S&W 13
I have a S&W Model 13 that recently came into my possession. I was giving some friends grief about their reliance on autos, and telling them how I can speed load about as well as they can change a magazine. The laugh was on me when I found out that the Hogue Monogrip on this prevented the speedloader from lining up.
Yes I know, should have been something I tried before then ... mea culpa. At least I didn't "need" to load.
Is there a grip that is better suited for this, or is that a common issue? I see that most grip manufacturers list K & L frames with square or round butt ... is that a preference thing or a difference in the frames?

It is the frame shape. Grips are not interchangeable. 0 -
Do you have the older style, plastic monogrip or the new style rubber grip? 0 -
Thanks for the reply HC ... this seems obvious to me but I've learned that sometimes what's obvious is wrong. Would this be a square butt?

The Hogue is a rubber monogrip. I don't hate it but it's definitely got to go.
EDIT: This is the grip I have:

Hm, see, this is why I ask ... poked around on the S&W website and apparently this is a round butt:
I would have ASSumed it was square because the bottom was flat.0 -

Thats a round butt...those Hogues are supposed to be relieved for a speedloader, are you using Safariland speedloaders?0 -
It's the grips; the frame is irrelevant. Most rubber grips are designed to fit on both round & square butt frames.
You might want to look for Pachmayr grips; they made rubber grips for some S&W factory models.

HKS Speedloaders.
The grip is relieved, just not enough I guess.0 -
You may want to try the Safariland Speedloaders, they don't have that big knob that gets in the way like the HKS. I have a pile of Safariland speedloaders, I will send you a couple free if you want to try them out. 0 -
To clarify:
Now, just find yourself a combination of grips and speedloaders that you like and work together. Shouldn't be too hard.0
