i have a colt 1991 a1 slide i need a receiver any one know where to find one

    Hello 1911A1 slides were made by the thousands as replacement parts so there are many more slides then Military frames Noy if you want to build a 1911 TYPE pistol but want to buy a clone frame then Caspian or Springfield or check with Brownells the reason you dont see many frames is THIS is the part that needs to be shipped to an FFL dealer.

    Maybe he means the Colt 1991, which is a modern Colt reproduction with plastic trigger & MSH.

    Of course, perry shooter's response is still valid, as anyone with a 1991 receiver could easily find a slide for it.

    Colt will not sell you a receiver.
    You can get Government Model receivers from Essex, Caspian, Fustion, Baer, Wilson, and maybe others. Assembly with all the necessary small parts is a sizeable project and not cheap. You might come out better to sell your odd slide and just buy a gun.

    Wasn't the 1991 like the 80's series with that "extra" safety? So due will need a '80's series reciever to make the slide useful (unless you take the firing pin safety out).

    I recall someone looking to buy a 1991 slide on want to buy section. You might wanna sell and buy a '70 series [;)]. Here's the linki

    now, of course, I'm not recommending you do thid, but the firing pin safety on the 80 series is easily disabled. there are two flat cam pieces mounted in the firing assembly (standard pins mount 'em).
    the right side of the frame is inlet (on the 80's) for the upper cam plate, so you cant just remove the plate (trigger assembly will wobble all over the place). you would have to grind off the cam lug. it's only around 0.030 steel, so you can snip it with side cutters and use it as a spacer in the frame. (you wouldn't need this witha 70 series frame). the rest of the safety is just a pin that runs thru the firing pin vertically. pull it out and replace the firing pin.
    but it's just as easy to buy an 80 frame and put it together the way it came from the factory. lining up the two cam plates is a pain in the azz. use a dot of grease to hold the upper piece to the frame cutout. brownells sells parts you need individually as well as in "kits".
