What is the difference between the FN 5.7MM IOM and the FN 5.7MM USG? Besides the trigger guard shape?

    Five-seven IOM
    The Five-seven IOM (Individual Officer Model) was the first commercially available variant of the Five-seven pistol, debuting in 2004. It is now discontinued in favor of the USG variant. The IOM is similar in its basic design to the original versions, but differs in that it has a M1913 accessory rail, lined trigger guard outside edge, and fully adjustable sights. It also incorporates a magazine safety mechanism that prevents the weapon from being fired without a magazine inserted. Early models of the IOM have the smooth rail found on the Tactical variant, but with low profile adjustable sights and a magazine safety, and the serial number is on the rail. This could be called an IOM prototype.

    Five-seven USG
    The Five-seven USG (United States Government) is the current version of the pistol.[11] This variant debuted in 2005 and replaced the IOM. The USG retains the changes incorporated in the IOM, but has further modifications. These include a conventionally-shaped (square) trigger guard, tightly checkered grip pattern, and a larger, reversible magazine release. In addition to the standard black finish, the USG is available in FDE (Flat Dark Earth) and ODG (Olive Drab Green). Starting in 2009, the Five-seven USG is also offered with fixed sights.

    Hi to all members.
    I have a dilemma. I just won my first ever gun, on gun broker.com. The title that I bin on was {Exact wording FN Five Seven USG 5.7 mm New Dark Earth} After I looked more at all the pictures provided by the seller I found that the gun case reads exactly { Five Seven I.O.M. Assy 2004 Flat Dark Earth}. What should I do? Money order was sent. Is there a difference in quality or future value of USG verses I.O.M.? I don't want to cause any trouble, and will honor my bid. Thanks for your commits

    1oldman...ripley16's post explains the differences. The IOM was the first model, the USG is the current model. I would read the ad again and see if there is an inspection period...if so return it for your money back if you are not happy. If there is none, is the seller a business, even if he isn't, call him up and talk to him; tell him your concerns...and his apparent misrepresentation in his ad. If that doesn't work contract gunbroker and ask for help...they can terminate his account...of course he could probably get a new one. Love to hear what happens.

    It is possible to see a case with a IOM sticker label but containing a USG. Why I don't know, but they exist... I have one. Serial numbers match, but the model named is incorrect.
