Is getting a ported barrel bushing installed worth it?

Only if you are Angelina Jolie.

In my opinion, a gimmick. Ported barrels & slides make cleaning interesting and hard on your patches & bore brushes. I'd uses a stronger recoil spring 19-24lbs. I don't care much for them but you might try a shock buffer with the standard spring.

Just to expand a bit; a real barrel mounted, gunsmith installed, expansion chamber compensator has an exit hole about .030" larger than the bullet. That way, a lot of the gas flow from the barrel hits the front baffle, which counteracts part of the recoil, and is directed out the top ports to reduce muzzle flip.

The things that look like compensators but replace the barrel bushing have to be open in front because the barrel protrudes. There is no real control over gas flow and no significant effect on recoil or flip.

Hawk has the correct answer . look at the size of the hole on the pictured posted of the movie gun the hole is as big as a gutter pipe you will not direct gas up and hold the pistol down with this type. I also Think buffers are one of the worst things you can put in a 1911 pistol it keeps the slide from fully cycling and causes a change in timing for the cartridge to rise up and feed properly as well as causing the slide stop to batter the slide notch because the slide stop does not have time to fully rise in the slide notch[V]

John Browning had it right at the beginning. All the wizbang add-ons and gimmicks over the years have not really improved on an excellant mechanical design.
Get a Commander and keep it cleaned and oiled , one in the chamber and a full mag and you have the best of all worlds...CCW, plinking, home defense...
If it ain't broke ...don't fix it.
