Just inherited custom mauser action rifle in 300 Apex, anyone know about this cartridge? Dies?

    Saw a customized Springfield A3 today in caliber 300 Apex. The cartridge is apparently based on a 300 H&H case. Does anyone have, or know where I can get, information on this cartridge?

    The 300 Apex was from the Apex Rifle Company Sun Valley, CA. A .300 H&H case reformed to 30-06 length. Designed to re-chamber 30-06 rifles for more power. Any of their old catalogs will give loading information.

    Parker Ackley's "Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders, Volume 1" says "This should be a fine cartridge of about maximum capacity for the .30 bore". He lists loads of 69gr 4350 with a 180gr bullet at 3212 fps and a load of 68gr 4350 with a 220 gr bullet at 2885 fps. These are slightly better velocities than he shows for the 300 Weatherby with 180gr and about the same as the 220gr, so it's a pretty potent .30 cal cartridge. And wildcats are ALWAYS fun. Enjoy.     IF it's a 300 H&H shortened to -06 length, than you should be able to make brass from the much more common 300 Win and 7mmRem Mag cases.
    The 300 WM and the 300 Norma mag were both created to get H&H preformance in a standard length action (these are the origional "Short Magnums" BTW), so it sounds like the Apex was another contender for this market.
    BTW, the Ackley data is always suspect, as a high percentage of it is WAY over what SAAMI specifies as maximim pressure. Back than people understood the risks and liabilities of reloading (and didn't run to their lawyer at the drop of a hat), and load "testing" was done by the "go up till the bolt sticks (or something else gives) and back off 1gr" methiod

    laylandad gave you a source for dies. You can use .300 H&H or .300 Win Mag brass to form cases. Since the Apex case is 2.615" long, the 7 Rem Mag or the .338 Mag @ 2.5" won't work.
