8mm mauser

My father put a 8mm Mauser onto one of those synthetic stocks. It has the rail and he wants a cheap but decent scope. Give me some suggestions, it would be a surprise if I got him something nice.

    I have a old 8mm mauser that I'm trying to use as a hunting gun but have problem getting spent cartridge out of barrel. I'm using new ammo not surplus can anyone help me

    Try cleaning the chamber.
    Get a .45 brass brush. Put it on a section of cleaning rod, and chuck it into a drill.
    Put some Hoppes #9 on it and scrub that chamber for a few minutes.

    First thing is to clean the gun entirely.

    You should clean the chamber thoroughly as Alan Griggs suggests because dirt in there can make fired cartridges stick and be tough to extract.

    Also, if you haven't already done so, make sure you've completely disassembled the bolt and cleaned IT totally.

    Many older military surplus guns such as Mausers have been stored in cosmoline (a sticky petroleum-based preservative), and unless its entirely removed, it can interfere with the action of the bolt.

    Have You striped the Bolt and cleaned it? and the Trigger Group? What Old Mauser Rifle do You Have? Have You polished the Chamber?

    Get yourself some J-B bore brite and a .35 Cal bore mop , fill the mop With J-B , put it on a short section of cleaning rod , Put the rod in a cordless drill and shine that chamber to a high lustre. Takes a while , but it works great ![:)]

    I concur with the previous posters who say clean this thing. Also, if you are shooting new "surplus" you may find some of it is pretty hot and will make the bolt stick.
    For that, push the bolt handle all the way down and when you go to bring it up and back give it a good smack while doing so. Sometimes the bolt won't go back because it hasn't cleared the last little bit of the action. That's why you need to smack it up before you smack it back. Once you see the base of the bolt all the way up to the opposite side of the receiver then, if still won't go, take a soft mallet. Always being careful that you don't exert too much force and bend/break your bolt.

    FWIW, the best hunting loads out of an 8mm are reloads. 200 gr. Speer or Accubond are about as close to as much energy you'll ever need on target on anything in North America.
